Latest Updates from Our Project:

Sneak Peak at randomization options
about 7 years ago – Sun, Mar 05, 2017 at 08:02:43 PM

Here's a quick video showing some of the randomization options available to KS backers, and then a playthrough with a few of the affected roles selected.

The numbers control the likelihood that the option will play, with 100 being all the time, and 0 being never. All the KS-only options are set to 0 by default, and only KS backers can turn them on!

Instructions on how to access this hidden feature will be posted in a future update, once the app is available.

Werewords & Plastic Token Proof Pics
about 7 years ago – Thu, Feb 16, 2017 at 12:01:36 PM

Werewords has been announced!

In Werewords™, players guess a secret word by asking “yes” or “no” questions. Figure out the magic word before time is up, and you win!
However, one of the players is secretly a werewolf who is not only working against you, but also knows the word. If you don’t guess the word in time, you can still win by identifying the werewolf!
To help you out, one player is the Seer, who knows the word, but has to be careful not be too obvious when helping you figure it out; if the word is guessed, the Werewolf can pull out a win by identifying the Seer!

A free iOS/Android app provides thousands of words in hundreds of categories at various difficulty levels, so everyone can play.

Each game takes less than 10 minutes to play, and players can adjust both the difficulty level of the word lists (Easy, Medium, Hard, or, if you're a little bit loco, Ridiculous) as well as the time allowed for figuring out the word. As each question is guessed, the word-knowing Mayor (who may not speak), must answer every question by giving the asker a token: one of the limited double-sided  "Yes/No" tokens (with the appropriate side up), a "Maybe" token (in case the question can't easily be answered with a Yes or No), the coveted "So Close" token, and finally, when the word is guessed correctly, the "Correct" token. But if the Mayor runs out of Yes/No tokens, the village team has to stop guessing, and much figure out who the werewolf (or werewolves, if you're playing with more people) is in order to salvage a victory. Additional roles such as the helpful Beholder and the not-so-helpful Minion provide additional, optional variety for players.

One of the things that's unique is the Mayor, who is trying to help out the village...at least that's what you thought... Well, he might also be a werewolf, and he can lie when answering questions to throw you off track! Of course, he can't be too blatant about it or you'll figure it out and vote for him to save the day for the village.

Another unique thing is that players can create and upload their own custom word lists into the app, so you can create an NSFW list, a super-boardgaming-geek list, or any other list of words you can imagine!

Werewords can be preordered here and will ship in July!

Plastic Token Proof Pics

We just received a complete sample of the plastic tokens, and they look great! If you missed out on these during the Kickstarter, you can add them to your KS order via backer kit: https://one-night-ultimate-alien.backerkit.com/

 The 107

If you haven't filled out your survey, there's still time to do so before shipping - according to the good folks at Backer Kit, 107 of you haven't done this yet. It only takes a few minutes, and will ensure that you receive your game/other stuff when they ship. You can fill out your survey now right here (and don't worry about being late...we're not judging you...yet): https://one-night-ultimate-alien.backerkit.com/

Files at the printer!
about 7 years ago – Fri, Feb 03, 2017 at 12:12:36 AM

The final files for One Night Ultimate Alien have been sent to the printer, and I thought that, considering there's not much else to report, you'd like to see how the game and bonus pack (#3) ended up. Remember, all KS backers get both the game and Bonus Pack 3 (which has a lot of the stretch goals), as long as you backed at the $25 level or higher.

Here's the first page of the Alien rules, and the front of the Bonus Pack 3 package:

App update - Oracle snippet
over 7 years ago – Tue, Dec 20, 2016 at 09:43:43 PM

Merry Christmas, One Night fans!

Things are well underway with the app, and as a little Christmas present for you, here's a sneak peek at one of the Oracle questions and answers. Please note that the response from the app after I choose Player 3 is atypical (most of the time it will tell the players that the Oracle has chosen to view Player 3, and "go ahead and view player 3") but sometimes...you'll get this response, which is a lot of fun. :)

The reason there are 8 players to choose from is because I have selected a bunch of non-waking roles (villagers, Tanner, etc.) which aren't shown here...the number of players is always based on the number of roles selected in the app (usually roles selected-3, to cover the three center cards). So the app is kinda smart, at least, in that it only displays numbers of players that are (or should be) in the game.

Likewise, if no one is the Oracle, the app will pick a number as if someone chose it...note that there's no "click" when "3" is chosen when the question is asked, so nothing is given away.

More snippets to come in the future...June is such a long way off!

Rules and App progress report
over 7 years ago – Mon, Nov 28, 2016 at 07:04:41 PM

The "final" draft of the rules and Getting Started guide have been completed, and while there's still a round of proofing to go, we're getting closer to having them printed. The rest of the components (punchboards, box, etc.) are all ready as well, so the next step will be getting them to the printer and dealing with any preproduction issues, and then pressing the giant red "PRINT" button.

 App work continues...

The app is a beast this time...there are so many new things to add in order to make the new roles work well, that we're approaching it role by role. We've got the new roles all in place, though some of them don't do anything yet. Right now we are testing the Oracle role, which requires a whole new interface in order to work correctly. Here's one of the Oracle questions:

Eagle-eyed backers might notice that the screenshot is missing the 11/12 numbers...but the numbers that show up on this screen is based on the number of roles selected...so this is what would show up for a 10-player game (with 13 role cards selected).

The Randomization options are coming along as well...this is the secret menu that KS backers will have access to in order to manipulate the frequency of different role actions and ripples, as well as turn them on and off, and to access the "KS-only" items. To make this as simple as possible, we've combined this into a single UI element for each action that has a percentage next to it: If the percentage is 0%, the element is set to "off" and won't appear. All KS-only items will be preset to 0%.

The total % of all actions/ripples in each role (or the set of ripples) will be equal to 100%, so as you increase one you'll be lowering another one. We're still working on making this as intuitive as possible, and the UI shown here is unlikely to be final.

Everything else is still on track for June delivery, so we're feeling pretty good about the project.

Oh, and since you read all the way to the bottom of this update, there's a new game that will be announced within the next few months that I think you'll be very excited about. I'm not going to give too much away right now, but ponder this: What if One Night and Codenames had a baby?
